Junior Golf Programs at Burlingame Country Club: Ages, Stages, and Development Milestones
Nestled at 3,000 feet in the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains, Burlingame Country Club’s Junior Golf Program offers more than just golf instruction—it provides young players with an extraordinary journey of growth, friendship, and achievement. Our comprehensive curriculum is thoughtfully designed to nurture both golfing abilities and character development across all age groups and skill levels. Here in our mountain paradise, junior golfers develop lifelong skills while creating treasured memories on our championship Tom Jackson-designed course.
Age-Appropriate Programs for Every Young Golfer
At Burlingame, we understand that children develop at different rates and have varying interests. Our junior programs are structured to meet golfers where they are in their development journey, providing appropriate challenges and celebrations at every stage.
Little Linksters (Ages 5-7)
Our Little Linksters program introduces our youngest golfers to the game through play-based activities that develop fundamental movement skills. These 45-minute sessions focus on building coordination, balance, and basic golf awareness while fostering a love for the outdoors. Children learn through games that subtly introduce proper grip, stance, and swing concepts without overwhelming technical instruction. By the end of this stage, children typically develop comfort with their equipment, basic putting skills, and an understanding of simple golf etiquette.
Junior Developers (Ages 8-11)
As children grow, so does their capacity for learning proper technique. Our Junior Developers program builds on fundamental movements while introducing more structured instruction on full swings, chipping, and putting. These 60-minute sessions include on-course experiences where youngsters learn course navigation, decision-making, and scorecard basics. Development milestones include consistent ball contact, understanding distance control, and beginning to play actual holes with modified yardages. The mountain setting provides natural terrain variations that help develop adaptability in young players.
Teen Academy (Ages 12-17)
Our Teen Academy offers serious skill refinement through personalized coaching plans. These players receive detailed video analysis, strategic course management instruction, and competitive preparation. Teens benefit from longer 90-minute sessions that include mental game coaching, fitness components, and tournament preparation. Development milestones include consistent shot patterns, club selection mastery, course management strategies, and competitive experience. Advanced players are mentored through tournament preparation and college recruitment processes.
The Burlingame Development Pathway
What sets Burlingame’s junior program apart is our clear development pathway that guides young golfers from their first swing to potential competitive play. Each child progresses at their own pace through skill levels marked by specific achievements rather than solely by age. Our coaching team provides regular progress assessments with tangible feedback on technical skills, course management, and golf etiquette.
Throughout their journey, junior golfers experience our signature “Best of Times” approach—balancing structured improvement with the joy and camaraderie that make golf a lifelong pursuit. The program integrates seamlessly with family time, offering parent-child events and family course experiences that create golden, sparkling moments of connection on our magnificent mountain course.
Coaching Philosophy and Expertise
Our junior golf instruction team combines PGA/LPGA professional expertise with youth development specialization. Coaches are trained in modern teaching technologies while maintaining Burlingame’s warm, relationship-focused approach. The 5:1 student-to-coach ratio ensures personalized attention while fostering a supportive peer environment.
Beyond technical instruction, our coaches serve as mentors who emphasize golf’s core values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, and respect. These values align perfectly with Burlingame’s community-focused culture, creating young golfers who become well-rounded individuals both on and off the course.
